have to agree with you.In my teens Montgomery's butterscotch was the highlight of my week-we lived on the edge in those days.And while we're at it Montgomery's Fish and Fish shop was next door and their batter was also unique.

I am on doing a bit of digging about my husbands Granda Jackie Willis and came across this post. I did question some of the things I have found on google but meeting Jackie in Newcastle sounds about right!! did the family live on Grand Street, Low Road on the corner of " Bap Row"
I remember a Rabbie Keery living there, he kept lots of stuff in his back garden and there was a bird shed also there. My Uncle Ronnie lived next door. 60 years ago, seems like yesterday.
