The Lisburn Exiles Forum is dedicated to the memory of James Goddard Collins (The Boss) who single-handedly built LISBURN.COM (with a lot of help from many contributors) from 1996 to 29th November 2012. This website was his passion and helping people with a common interest in the City of Lisburn around the world is his lasting legacy.
With all the chit chat re driving long distances made me think of all the changes in cars over the years. When I went out to Australia in 1950 they were stil driving pre war cars (as in the UK) and a lot of them manafactured in the 20s. My uncle in Adelaide had a1928 Essex with a canvas roof and plastic type windows, I borrowed it a couple of times and 'Boy" did it ever shake rattle and roll. Of course air conditioning was unheard of back then. Then General Motors upened up a car factory and started producing the Holden which became the most popular car in Australia. Even in North America air conditioning in cars didn't become widespread untill the 70s,my first air conditioned car was a 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlas.untill I got over the novelty I used to put it on at the slightest hint of warm weather.?
