Lisburn Exiles Forum

(Site is no longer operational pending a major long overdue overhaul of the entire website. Thank you for your patience. Site should still be visible and searchable for old posts.)

The Lisburn Exiles Forum is dedicated to the memory of James Goddard Collins (The Boss) who single-handedly built LISBURN.COM (with a lot of help from many contributors) from 1996 to 29th November 2012. This website was his passion and helping people with a common interest in the City of Lisburn around the world is his lasting legacy.

The tidy up continues

Tonight I fixed the files in the Exiles Recipes section http://www.lisburn.com/Recipes/exiles-recipes.html. They look great, I'm planning to sample on or two of them this weekend. :-)

Re: The tidy up continues

And I adjusted this page with photographs of Lisburn Street Hillsborough. Flick your mouse over the top photograph to see it in 1924 and off again to go back to 1984. http://lisburn.com/oldphotographs/Photo_pages/lisburn-street-past-present.html

Re: The tidy up continues

Ooops, every time I get confident about what I am doing with the site, I suddenly realise I am actually over confident! Before going to bed last night, after midnight, I did a 'quick fix' on the business directory pages. Well, it wasn't exactly quick! All the database driven pages, which still don't really understand because they were written in another computer language, broke. At 1am I gave up and went to bed admitting defeat. I called for reinforcements in the office and Aaron found the problem in a half hour... a missing " . Arrrgghhh. Fixed now. Apologies to anyone who noticed the problem. Backups will be created this weekend!

Re: The tidy up continues

Darryl,

Sounds like you are getting addicted to the old Website, just taking on where your Dad left off.

Thanks again for your efforts, one day we all will be satisfied with the new man. You have had big shoes to fill......PAT

Re: The tidy up continues

Darryl I am not suggesting you copy, but you may like to look at oldwarrenpointforum.com for some ideas for the site. I am sure that Brian McCalmont who runs it would be willing to help you with any problems you are having if he can.

I know the two sites are completely different but I like that.

Re: The tidy up continues

Thanks for the link Linda. I'll have a look.

Re: The tidy up continues

Thanks Pat! There is a LOT of manual work being done on the site. Everytime I do a 'find and replace' it seems to work for most of its intended files, but often has unintended consequences that require individual attention. I've spent more hours than I'd care to say shipping data around, but I think I am making some headway. Time will tell.

Re: The tidy up continues

Darryl
Thanks to your old dad, I have enjoyed watching my poems appear regularly. Curiously, one has disappeared. If I click on 'A Little Grave In Lisburn', I get a blank page!!!???

Re: The tidy up continues

Hi Dabbler,

The poem is here for me http://lisburn.com/stories/a-little-grave-in-lisburn.html.
And the link on this page http://lisburn.com/stories/stories_or_poems.html takes me to it.

Where are you clicking to get the page? What browser version are you using?
When the updates are published to the site, it may be that you need to clear your browser cache to see the updated page - this sometimes happens by reloading the page.

Starting to appreciate the amount of work you have put into the site too! :)

Can the postings be in reversed chronalogical order?
I would prefer to read the newest post first.
