Photo - former house near Drumbeg Orange Hall

I’m not sure if this is the place to ask, but does anyone know of any old photos of the houses that used to be just east of the Orange Hall on Ballyskeagh Road near Drumbeg? Today, the “Drumbeg Cottages” is on the site.

My ancestor (George Maxwell) lived on the property as early as 1812. His son Alexander held the lease after George’s death in 1861 and I believe Alexander’s son George lived there around the turn of the century.

I’m in the U.S. (I descend from Alexander’s brother George Jr.) and would love to know what the old home may have looked like. The Ordnance Survey maps seem to show a (if not “the”) house on the property as late as the 1950s. Does anyone happen to have any old photos of that area or know where any might be found?

there is a book about Lambeg district named " All around Lambeg " . written by Frederick Gilbert Watson ISBN 978 1 906578 15 2
It contains infos and photos about the area and photos of houses and people. You could look it up in Amazon as it may hold some info which could interest you
I was born and raised there and have been living in Munich Germany for almost 50 years now but still find reports from Lambeg and Hilden areas still interesting

Thanks to you both for the suggestions. I have not had much luck locating any old photos online of that particular location, but the book sounds promising. I’ll take a look!

Thanks,

I,m re-reading the book and found in Chapter 4 " Church Hill to Lambeg Square" on page 77 the Orange Hall where Loyal Orange Lodge 912 founded in 1865 is based. That may be of some use to your query. Another possibility would be to contact the Author Fredrrick Gilbert Watson who lives in Lambeg and I think has connections with the Lisburn Historical Society.

Donald,

That’s a good idea, I’ll send a query to the publisher. This is most helpful, I’ll get a copy of the book on order.

Thanks,

Scott

you will enjoy reading it and hopefully find some info about your ancestors. You may have trouble finding a copy as it was published over 10 years ago but in Amazon or EBay you maybe can buy a second hand one.
