Re: Herrns Alaive

Hi Donald, The herrings I purchased were whole so I gutted and boned them myself by hand rather than fillet them I eat 3 and a half of them with the salad and honestly Donald they were worth waiting for, bring on next Friday and hope he still has a few on his cart, Regards Ted

Re: Herrns Alaive

you have put me in the mood for a herring or two. Tomorrow I will be in the Biergarten in the centre of Munich, meeting with friends , there are a number of fish shops in the area so I will have a wee duke if there are any herrings and how much they coat. Herself does not permit me to cook them inside so I must do them on the balcony. Have not had any this year so no doubt I will buy some. I have an electric Paella pan which I use for cooking fish, must try to pott some in it sometime.
Like I said earlier fish has become a luxury here but there is nothing better than a charcoal grilled Mackerel, a large Pretzl and a litre of good Bavarian beer in a Biergarten, followed by a second litre.

yesterday was in Munich centre and saw Herrings, beheaded and gutted for €11,90 per kilo. Bought 6 , they cost €12,50 and had to fry them on the balcony. My eyes were bigger than my belly for we only managed two each. The remaining two I put into a malt vineger and may have a go at them tonight.

Re: Herrns Alaive

Hi Donald, I know the feeling, lately I have a habit of cooking more than I require and I now find bits and pieces that end up in the freezer and I keep promising myself I must use these items up but they end up dehydrated and only fit for dumping then I have a guilt complex, Re Hugh Mc William's, myself and my brother were at the funeral and surprising it was a very small turn out, he was a well known character on the Low Rd but I knew no one at the funeral with the exception of Vincent Doran the butcher who informed us that Hugh called in to his shop every morning sad really, Regards Ted

not long now until the Oktoberfest starts, don´t know if I will go out as the security fences and controlling are unbelieveable and €11,50 for a litre of beer is not exactly a bargain.
