The Lisburn Exiles Forum is dedicated to the memory of James Goddard Collins (The Boss) who single-handedly built LISBURN.COM (with a lot of help from many contributors) from 1996 to 29th November 2012. This website was his passion and helping people with a common interest in the City of Lisburn around the world is his lasting legacy.

The Boss!

Hi Members,It has just crossed my mind that tomorrow would have been Jim's 82nd Birthday, and he really has left a big gap, thinking back about the few get together we enjoyed in his company which he was always enthusiastic about ,I was just looking back at the photos taken down the Line on the way to the brewery for lunch that great day when we were able to sit in the courtyard afterwards for drinks and the craic ,also the lunches in the Lisburn Bell in Hazlems Lane,So Jim to yourself, it was a pleasure to have been a friend and thanks for the memories,to the family not forgetting BJ I offer my condolences at this anniversary, Kind Regards to all Ted

Re: The Boss!

Ted, I too am glad that I met the late Jim. He was a very kind and thoughtful man. He always followed up any queries and made the Forum what it is today. It was for exiles that Jim began this Forum, so that they could keep in contact with news from home. I hope we can carry on his work for another while.

Re: The Boss!

Just shows a good person is never forgotten, sorry I never met Jim in person but know from the Forum he was one of the best. My he rest in peace.

Re: The Boss!

So usually I don't; but it was nice being here at the start.

Re: The Boss!

I tried to submit a couple of stories and even though I spaced the couple of paragraphs out when I tried to post them they disappeared this is also my second attempt with this short message. If it disappears so do I.???? Mauri

Re: The Boss!

Mauri, just having a look in this evening. I see you've been the only contributor on recently (apart from Ted). It's disappointing to say the least but what can you do.

We've been having beautiful weather this week. I've been painting the fencing all around the house. Dominic has been repairing and painting the deck, so we've been busy. Neither of us is finished yet, but it's enjoyable when we see the result of our efforts. After my second day of painting, that evening I was walking about like an orangutan) (wrong spelling I'm sure). My back was killing me so I took it a bit easier the next day. Tomorrow, if the weather holds out, we'll have the brushes and tubs of paint out again. We need the garage and gates painted too but I think we'll get a painter to do this.

It's a lovely, still, warm evening and clear until bed-time now. I was walking our wee dog Bella earlier and the warmth of the late afternoon and the peacefulness reminded me of years ago walking down the Low Road. Funny how snatches of earlier years can just suddenly be brought on by something like a warm afternoon.

Well, Mauri (and Ted), it looks like it's down to us (and Pat too) to keep up the chat. Wonder what happened to Low Roader, Dabbler, Donald, Pamela, Lower Case and the rest. Must be all having a life. I'll go in now and see what's on TV. Nothing much as far as I know. Goodnight all.

Re: The Boss!

This is the second attempt, just got back from Bibione near Venice on Friday. Weather and wine were OK, couldn´t go into the sea as I had a sore on my ankle and didn´t want to get sand into it. Drove to Latisana to get the train to Venice but could not find a parking place as it was market day.

Re: The Boss!

Hi Ann, Sure sounds like you and Dominic have been really busy with the painting etc. Those are chores I don't miss now that we are in a Condo and all the maintenance is looked after by the organization that we charter it from.

Weather here really nice though rain forecast for tomorrow and later in the week. My stepson's wife's parents over from Wales for six weeks so will probably be taking them out somewhere for a drive probably north of here around the lake.as long as the sun stays out???

Have tried to tell a oouple of stories but were deleted when I tried to post, maybe the same thing will happen here. Have fun in the sun and enjoy the week. Mauri

Re: The Boss!

Donald, although I sympathise with you, I couldn't help laughing at the "sore" on your ankle. That's a real Lisburn one. One might say a "sore" what, but we know what you mean. The sea water would have helped it.

Glad you had a good time anyway.

That old male joke came to mind just now = Question " Why is a sore finger a sore thing but a sore thing is not a sore finger ? "
For some time now I have been experiencing pain in my knees and today I was at a specialist for ortopedic problems and expected to hear that I would need replacement knees, he examined the x-rays and knees and said that would not be necessary and prescribed cortison injections, and a few weeks application of Voltaren gel would ease the pain. Also he advised 5 weekly injections of a special preparation which I must pay for separate but will do so gladly if it brings ease.

Re: The Boss!

Donald, Stay off the beer and loose a bit of weight, much cheaper than injections. Ha! Ha!

Re: The Boss!

Mauri have a good time with your friends from Wales. I'm sure they'll enjoy the nice weather and eating out. Take care
