Home Alone
My wife is in Paris with daughter-in-law
It seems a right funny weekend
She’s usually here, bending my ear,
And driving me right round the bend.

I haven’t made cupboards,
Or put up a shelf
But I’ve kept the house clean,
And I’ve cooked for myself

I’ve watched football, of course,
But did not back a horse
I’ve tried to learn something new
But although it seems *****
When ‘The Boss’ isn’t here
I’m never quite sure what to do.

(And I can't even make up a rhyme).

Dabbler, Nice little verse, you never mentioned it but Iexpect you will be bending the elbow more while on your own. I found myself doing that this week when I was on my own at home for a few days. Mauri

My son and I went and collected our better halves today, so I'm back to normal; whatever that may be. Hope all is now well in your abode. By the way, that bit about you being mild mannered - I'm not buying that!

Is ***** a bad word?
If gays are objecting, I knew one who kept a photo of Jason Donovan hanging in his workplace, including the scurrilous slogan ' Q**** as F***'. Admittedly, he was a real character. When a new redheaded girl joined the staff, he said,"I could go straight for her".

Didn't drink, in case anybody needed a lift.

Re: Home Alone
Dabbler, nice wee verse. However, I am more interested in the fact that your wife is in Paris. Did she buy anything? What did she think of the trip? I've never been in Paris or New York (except for being in the airport). I would love to visit New York before I die, particularly coming up to Christmas. Must have been watching all those old black and white movies, set in New York around the Christmas period. All that jostling, people carrying parcels, shops all lit up, "Chestnuts roasting by an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose".

AND, it's not even Hallowe'en yet.

Maybe Pat and I will visit NY sometime, although I fear we would need an escort in the big city.

I had hoped you might be more interested that I was home alone.
My wife went with Finnish relatives. Sight-seeing; though they did a river cruise with dinner, which all six of them enjoyed. Two of the young women bought stuff, but I can't afford to send my wife on shopping trips.

Ann, stayed in New York a couple of years ago and can 't tell you much about the shops. My wife and her sister visited all the big stores in Manhatton but I must admit I spent the shopping time in the nearest bar to Tiffanys etc with her brother. Met some interesting barflys. Beats the shopping.

Aidan, thanks for the info on NY. Nothing, but nothing, beats the shopping. Hope I get to the Big Apple some day.

Hi Ann,

Doreen and I have been in New York a number of times. We went around Christmas one year with another couple. Doreen couldn't get over the shopping, especially the big named stores. There's Macy's, Saks of Fifth Ave., Bloomingdales, Tiffanys to mention a few. While the girls went round the shops my buddy and I spent the time in the OTB(bookies).
I can tell you one thing, Christmas in New York is something special
