The Lisburn Exiles Forum is dedicated to the memory of James Goddard Collins (The Boss) who single-handedly built LISBURN.COM (with a lot of help from many contributors) from 1996 to 29th November 2012. This website was his passion and helping people with a common interest in the City of Lisburn around the world is his lasting legacy.

Three Words

After several days of watching the Tory Party conference smugly pat themselves on the back while the media took time off from putting the journalistic boot into Jeremy Corbyn to lie prostrate before the ghost of Margaret Thatcher, I needed some air. I decided to try out the completed tram system in Nottingham which has only recently been completed. Using my free pensioners travel pass I travelled from North of the city through the old coal mining towns of Hucknall, Bulwell and Cinderhill into Nottingham and out to the end of the line at Clifton.

The latter is an estate built during the 1960's to rehouse the slum dwellers from the area known as the Meadows in Nottingham. The Clifton estate became a byword for anti social behaviour, poverty and deprivation.

Now the tram has injected investment and hope into this area and I was genuinely surprised haw fresh and vibrant the community looks. The tram investment was made by the Labour city council in the face of severe opposition from the Conservatives locally and nationally and flew in the face of the austerity orthodoxy.

As mentioned elsewhere by Dabbler I too have found the election of Jeremy Corbyn, much to my surprise, heart warming and ember stirring. The politics of hope against the politics of spite and fear.

On the tram a fresh face young female university student was carrying out research.

"Tell me in three words," she asked me, "what you think of the tram."

"Socialist, Success, Story." I replied.

Re: Three Words

Goodmorning Hildenboy, I very much enjoyed reading your article it is very positive in the face of all the negativity that Jeremy Corbin has been receiving from the press and elsewhere ,most Saturday morning I buy the Daily Mail soly for the supplement which gives the TV programs for the week and that paper really crusafy him and I feel guilty then for buying it, then you read and hear from other sources of the large new members of young upcoming voters joining the party and it gives one hope, regarding the tram it sounds a Brillant form of transport to cruise the city at a nice pace and in comfort I do hope it gives you many more years of enjoyment as it sounds a great way to spend a day , Kind Regards Ted
