Sad Loss

I lost a dear friend last Tuesday, Bridie Sweeney, who died peacefully at home, after a long illness, with Parkinson's Disease. Her husband & family looked after her devotedly for nearly 30 years.

Bridie & I were friends since schooldays & kept in touch all through the years, weddings, funerals, births, Christenings, all family occasions.

Unfortunately when we moved to Clare, contact was mostly by phone or Greeting Cards this last years, but we were always close.

I travelled to her wake & funeral last week, it was as if I had never been away, the welcome was the same, a great family, who treated me as Bridie always did, as part of the family.

She was laid to rest in Glenavy Churchyard after a packed Requiem Mass in Glenavy Church. May she rest in peace, she certaintly looked peaceful in death. Bridie was the last of the Sweeney family.

I have lost a true & trusted friend, but have many happy memories. My sympathy is for her devoted husband &family who will miss her every day.

Re: Sad Loss

Pat, please accept my condolences on behalf of your dear friend Bridie. I will always remember when she stood up for me in Bookeeping class at Lisburn Technical School, I had not turned in an Excercise in Mr Devlin's class, due to a split lip, playing school hockey.
Bridie tried to explain this to Mr Devlin, but was shot down by him saying, " She should have been at school ! "
That's all the sympathy I got for representing the school, but I truly appreciated Bridie's efforts.

Re: Sad Loss

Pat, I too was sorry to hear of Bridie's death. Maybe it was a blessing considering her ill health for so many years. Still, a mother can never be replaced. May she rest in peace.
