The Lisburn Exiles Forum is dedicated to the memory of James Goddard Collins (The Boss) who single-handedly built LISBURN.COM (with a lot of help from many contributors) from 1996 to 29th November 2012. This website was his passion and helping people with a common interest in the City of Lisburn around the world is his lasting legacy.

WILDE LOVE

"Wilde Love"

All men kill the thing they love
By all let this, by all let this be heard [x2]

I never saw a man who looked with such a wistful eye
Upon that little tent of blue which prisoners call the sky
And at every drifting cloud that went with sails of silver by
In Reading Gaol by Reading town there is a pit of shame
And in it lies a wretched man eaten by teeth of flame
The man had killed the thing he loved
And so he had to die

All men kill the thing they love
By all let this, by all let this be heard

Some kill their love when they are young
And some when they are old
Some strangle with the hands of Lust
Some with the hands of Gold
The kindest use a knife, because
The dead so soon grow cold
And there, till Christ call forth the dead,
In silence let him lie
No need to waste the foolish tear
Nor heave the windy sigh
The man had killed the thing he loved
And so he had to die

All men kill the thing they love
By all let this, by all let this be heard
All men kill the thing they love
By all let this, by all let this be heard

Some do it with a bitter look
Some with a flattering word
The coward does it with a kiss
The brave man with a sword
The man had killed the thing he loved
And so he had to die

All men kill the thing they love
By all let this, by all let this be heard

Re: WILDE LOVE

The Ballad is one of my favourites. The sexual inclinations of the writer matters not one iota.

Re: WILDE LOVE

Oscar Wilde had a great way with words. Like many another genius, he was way before his time. His writings, still relevant today, show the brilliance of his mind. So sad that he was born too soon, and in an age when gender had to be completely without question.

Re: WILDE LOVE

Ann,

What gender is there now.??????? Used to be only Man Or Woman like in Creation.........Wait for it, the onslaught of contradiction.

Waken up the Forum Daphne.

Pat?

Re: WILDE LOVE

Evolution brings surprises.
Wouldn't it be a nice surprise if local councils had their say on here?

Pat
We are all many things. At a guess, I would think that most readers would not wish to know about the seedier side of my mind. I hate gardening.

Re: WILDE LOVE

But I have Robbie Burns' lust for life, for life.

Re: WILDE LOVE

Dabbler, hold onto that lust for life. This is what keeps us going. Remember, join me on the journey to 200.
