Boxing Day

Anyone know where the name comes from?
Donald

Re: Boxing Day

Hi Donald,

I think the name comes from olden times when the poor boxes at the various churches, contributed to by the congregations up to Christmas Day, were opened and the money distributed to the poor and needy.
Others reckon it was a day to box up the packaging and paper from presents opened at Christmas to take to the tip.
I prefer the former explanation.

Happy New Year to you and all Exiles.

Sean
