Lisburn Exiles Forum

(Site is no longer operational pending a major long overdue overhaul of the entire website. Thank you for your patience. Site should still be visible and searchable for old posts.)

The Lisburn Exiles Forum is dedicated to the memory of James Goddard Collins (The Boss) who single-handedly built LISBURN.COM (with a lot of help from many contributors) from 1996 to 29th November 2012. This website was his passion and helping people with a common interest in the City of Lisburn around the world is his lasting legacy.

Voices from the Street

Hi to all
Have any of you had a read of the new publication called "Voices from the Street"?
It was written by a chap called Brian turner and is all about Bridge Street & the Quay.Published in October 2006 and available from the Lisburn Museum.
It is brilliant and is very revelant to the latest topics on the forum. The history of the Bridge steet area from 1705 to the present day.
Memories like Robbie John Allen,The Gasworks,Scholes'butchers,Rossie's ice
cream shop and Barkley Greer's grocery shop.
It also covers the Quay boxing club,Bullicks Entry & the Hollow. The photographs bring back memories.
Well worth getting your hands on a copy.
It was sent to me this week by Hazel Hamiltion.
At longlast they have started to preserve the buildings and by the look of the photographs doing a good job.
Have a nice day
John

Re: Voices from the Street

Hi John,

Just received a copy of the book from my old friend Daphne Sloan (McNeill). It makes great reading and brings back old memories.

By the way are you the John Mercer that lived in the Plantation Lane and had a brother Brian?.
