EVIL

Hi all, we all talk about the good old days in Lisburn, does anyone wish to say what they think (in their day) what was the most evil place in town and was perverts common then, I shall express my views at a later date. Perverts being child molesters etc.

Re: EVIL

Fraser,
I may have lived a closeted life in the Low Road but I can honestly say that I never knew of, or heard of, any child molestation in my time.
The only person I can recall who, in any way, was "different" was the chap from Hilden Avenue (now Delacherois) called Henry, but even he was never, to my knowledge, accused of that sort of thing.
As for the most evil place, I have no idea.
I await your enlightening post with great eagerness and indeed some regret that I seemed to have missed something.

Re: Re: EVIL

Nice one Fraser, You don’t really have any thing to offer, and are just baiting the hook, waiting for everyone’s input to get the town’s nasty secrets. We used to call it gossip!

Re: EVIL

Fraser,
I cannot stand the tension much longer. My blood pressure has soared at the thoughts of your revelation so, if for no other reason than the state of an old man's health you owe it to me to reveal the life that I missed all those years ago.

As for you, young Donald you should not spend excessive time in gents toilets (or indeed in ladies either.

Re: EVIL

Don't rush yourself Fraser it would be bad for your heart. But never mind folks because I know what it was - I mean the 'real evil' - but I'll tell you later.............

Re: EVIL

Donald/Joe,
I read this book a couple of years ago or so and I have to confess there were times when I had trouble seeing the page bevause of the tears.
This should be made compulsory reading in ALL the educational establishments at home, in my opinion.
A great read.

Re: Re: EVIL

ps don,t forget half of Europe and quite a bit of America are awaiting your memoirs concerning the dens of iniquity in Lisburn

Re: EVIL

Australia is all agog as well.

Re: EVIL

The dens of iniquity, the dark and gloomy places where children stood outside wondering what went on in these adult dreadful places, sometimes in fear, sometimes just to be daring. The smell when the doors opened was sickening and the noise bawdy. People who worked till their hands bled, long hours for low cash chose to go there to spend their hard earned wage, and for the bliss of it, chose also to stagger home and face the wife. And God help her, she had to feed the kids, keep out of his road, vow vengence in the morning with a torrent of words.

Young people today wouldn't recognise this account as a social evening out in the pub, but for children in our neighbourhood it was a part of life that was ugly, and surely must come close to "the most evil places" in our day.
