I found this interesting page on the BBC Peoples War Site http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/stories/05/a2631205.shtml It mentions the underground bunkers in Tottenham Court Road, Albany Stret, The Barracks and Cumberland Terrace. There are a many great stories of the war by ordinary people. Do have a look.
Whenever I reflect on the Flats and WW II I recall the small snapshot that Fred Smith( Paul's Dad)had of the unexploded bomb in the Camberley quadrangle court yard.It showed the bomb with I believe Paul and Doug Lawrence standing by.Amazing escape and free tickets for the Zoo when the Royal Engineers defused the offending explosive.I assume the photo was taken after the bomb was defused but before it was carted away perhaps foe re-cycling. Mike McDermott.
Pat and Paul Smith are my parents, I don't recall seeing that picture, I will ask him when I see him, see if I can scan it and send it in to the site for posting.
