What to do with the PSA screen?

My name is Peter Hahn and I am a cancer research scientist in the USA. I am trying to put together prostate cancer information for a general audience but particularly aimed at men from a PSA screening medical culture. The medical problem, in a nutshell, is that PSA screening causes harm (unnecessary prostatectomies), but doesn't save lives. The men who most need to do something about this are the prostate cancer survivors - the men who have been most affected and have the most interest in the issue. Yet - they as a group, having fought for the PSA screen, are deeply committed to defending it.

I am asking the international prostate cancer audience - men from non-PSA routine screening countries help in formulating the pro and con arguments. The two choices are to scrap the PSA screen or to figure out a better way to use it so that not so many men get unnecessary prostatectomies. I have written a long essay on my blog. http://thescienceofprostatecancer.com/?p=234

I would appreciate comments here or there.
