Cancer spread to ribs

Has anyone heard of the cancer spreading first to the ribs. I have had a pain in one of my left ribs for ten days.

Re: Cancer spread to ribs

Steve,

There are no rules to prostate cancer. Thereis a general view that the 'usual' route of cancer spreading fromthe gland is via the lymph nodes into the pelvis and from there into the spine, ribs etc. But.....the disease may not be detectable during this journey and may therefore seem to suddenly 'appear' at a remote place.

As part of my Active Surveillance routine, I had bone scans every two or three years. One of these scans detected a lesion on my rib cage and, because my PSA was rising - it ws over 40 ng/ml at the time - I agreed with the oncologist that it was likely to be metastasis or spread.

Without any details of your diagnosis or treatment choices it is difficult to say if the pain in your ribs is related to prostate cancer or not. Many of us, after diagnosis are very much more aware of our bodies and react more strongly to aches and pains than we would have done before diagnosis. In fact many of these aches and pains may have been with us for many years.

Hope this helps some.

All the best

Re: Cancer spread to ribs

When I was diagnosed, every pain I had I attributed to the cancer. I had and still do have intermittent pain in hip. Bone scan was negative. Finally went to chiropractor and he new exactly what it was. Gave me stretching exercises which helps a lot. It is hard not to worry.
