I am trying to help those with prostate cancer find the best radiation centers and care, and so I am developing a website to match patients with the right center. If any readers could list some criteria that are most important to them when picking a radiation center, that would be very helpful. Using your advice, I can help you find the best care.
I appreciate any and all advice on the most important criteria in choosing a radiation center.
Type of treatment offered
Experience and technology of equipment utilized
Affiliation with major teaching hospital
Access to other Urologists/Oncologists (larger staff=variety of viewpoints)
Type and frequency of patient monitoring utilized
Access to Nutritional counseling, pain management, etc
Location and access to public transportation
There would have to be a very good reason not to use the closest one and it would likely be one of the first three criteria listed. I lucked out and the one next to my urologist's office met all the criteria I listed.
