Just after I had RRP (Gleason 7 4+3) in early 2008 I had rising psa this was accompanied by strange feeling in my left armpit not painful but never the less enough to make me aware something did not feel right..
Since then I have had various treatments including SRT and HT. The SRT did reduce my psa for a while but when the psa began to rise the feeling in my left armpit returned.
Recently I stopped HT, the psa rose slightly this also was accompanied by the same feeling.
I have mentioned this to various urologists and oncologists and they all have no explanation. All concur that pain from cancer does not occur until tumour volume is quite large. I’m left with the feeling that they believe it to be of no consequence, and that it’s my imagination.
My present psa level is <0.1. and my psa has never gone above 1.3.
I have never seen this mentioned on any pc forum as a symptom and wonder if anybody else has had similar feelings.
May I hazard a guess that the lymph node in your left armpit becomes slightly swollen and tender as your body fights an infection of some sort? Just a layman's opinion but with your history and PSA level it is surely as the experts have told you - nothing to worry about.
Do you notice this feeling BEFORE you know what your PSA result is? I ask this because our minds all have some odd little functions - one of which is to create associations. Perhaps I can give you an example?
Soon after I was diagnosed back in 1996 I became much more aware of my body and what might be happening. I learned at that early stage the the most common route for the disease to spread was through the lymph system to the bones, especially the bones in the pelvic circle.
Sure enough a couple of weeks later, I had lower back pain AND a pain in my groin, sure signs the disease had spread in the short time since diagnosis. Very worrying intially, BUT ..... when I calmed down a bit - and learned a bit more, i realized that the back pain was the same one that I had for about thirty years intermittently - and that the pain in the groin was the same as that which had evidenced itself about twety years earlier - again it presented intermittently.
So, I told myself, it probably wasn't the cancer and that stood me in good stead for about eleven years when I got a real fright, which again turned out to be a dragon under the bed.
we get odd aches and pains as we age. They come and go. I hope yours goes and doesn't return.
