Recurring dull pain after bowel movement

I know I have brought this up before, but have any of you ever experienced this type of an on-going issue related to having a bowel movement & pain in your lower left groin area, sometimes radiating into the penis as well. It seems to subside after a few hours only to return the next day after having another bowel movement. Also get dull ache in lower back around tailbone for a few hours as well, urine flow is normally OK & no signs of blood etc. at this point. For more details related to my initial diagnosis see my story posted on the experiences page, all comments welcome!

Re: Recurring dull pain after bowel movement

I spoke with three Urologists and all agreed that with my localized cancer 2 of 12 at 5% staged T2c I would not see any symptoms from the cancer. Since you only have 1 of 16 I would think they would tell you the same. You mentioned that you had other symptoms which in part lead to the biopsy, perhaps these are related. Did you ever have your second biopsy?

Re: Recurring dull pain after bowel movement

Hi Frank,
No, strange thing is my first & only biospy in November of 2011 was triggered by symptoms of a bladder or prostate infection, which the urine test came back good. Dr. also ran a PSA which came back 2.7 up from my March 2011 PSA of .43 during my annual exam, no DRE problems noted in either visit. Symptoms eventually just went away, in the meantime the Urologist did the biospy based on the PSA jump from March to November, the results were 1 of 16 cores with 15% gleason 6 cancer in the core per the pathology report. I added up 4mm of gleason 6 cancer out of 290mm biospy tissue examined, not sure that little cancer would trigger any real physical symptoms at this point. I will be going into the Dr. in a few weeks for a follow-up & maybe schedule another biospy, although I would like to have a test that does a better job of checking the whole gland for cancer not just random sampling of lower half of prostate.

Re: Recurring dull pain after bowel movement

Tom,

I think you'd be correct in your assumption that the problems you outline are not related to your prostate cancer diagnosis and more likely to be related to other issues. Prostate and bladder infections are notoriouly difficult to diagnose and treat. As one of my urologists said to me, a warm pool of urine is like a spa bath to bacteria.

But of course there is always the "No Rules" aspect of this disease of ours, so you cannot be blamed for wanting to know more - to try and get a bit more reassurance. I see you are on the West Coast, so you are not too far from Bahn and his Color Doppler in Ventura, California. His reputation is such that if you could get to him, you would significantly improve the prospect of gaining some valuable positive or negative information. It certainly removes the prospect of another "shot in the dark".

If you want to go down this path, can I suggest you contact JON NOWLIN as he has had some year experience of Dr Bahn and his ministrations.

All the best
Terry in Australia
