I finished salvage radiation and 6 months of Lupron. It has been 3 weeks since my 6 months has ended. I still have annoying hot flashes at night every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Does anyone know when I can expect to be back to normal?
Bruce,
It will depend on if you had the one, three or six month injection. The longer the injection the longer the effect will last. Generally it should be over in a few months. Google Lupron to find out how it works and why it takes a while before your testosterone goes back up. The LHRH drugs aren't like most drugs that clear out of your body in 18 hours or less.
Like so much else about our disease and its treatment there is never any certainty. In most cases the length of time to recovery is relate to the length of time of the ADT, so there would be an expectation that your recovery would be in a month or two.
The bad news is that in a small percentage of cases the consequences of the therapy are permanent. I hasten to say that the cases reported are usually associated with therapies that have lated for years - a good deal longer than your six months.
