Re: Rowing after prostatectomy

I felt great 6 weeks after surgery and went for an easy bike ride with my family. I suffered for the next 2 weeks. I Don't know about rowing but I would suggest not rushing into extreme physical exercise.

Re: Rowing after prostatectomy

Your body has been through a great trauma and will react badly and in unexpected ways to any pyhsical exertion (my experience). It is also very easy to end up with a surgical hernia if you weight lift/stress yourself (my experience). Just go very slow and steadily build back up over the next 12 months. Slow short walks to start, then on to longer fast walks and then on to running over 6 months. After that try the rowing machine again. I was able to do triathlons again after about a year.

I was able to go on business trips after 3 weeks but I did feel tired and a bit uncomfortable if you are wondering about your general recovery.

Agreed, Frank - thanks.

I'm just starting to feel pretty good and need to learn to go slow.

Re: Rowing after prostatectomy

Good to know, Bruce. Thanks for the fair warning.

Guess I won't be rowing for a few months. I'll ask my urologist when I see him in September.
