Re: psa elevation

Charlie,

I think it is important for you to be clear what your RCOG alumni group are saying .....IF the increase is coming from cancerous tissue ..... It is always important for men who have chosen radiation to remember that they have still have the remnants of a prostate gland - radiation does not destroy ALL prostate cells - so it is perfectly feasible that any PSA detected could come from these cells, since PSA is NOT prostate cancer specific.

The lack of concern you report from your oncologist may be because he has a better understadning of the potental limitations of the Ultra Sensitive PSA tests. One of our members, Mike C reports that his doctor, along with others in Canada no longer use Ultra Sensitve PSA tests because they create unwarranted anxiety in patients.

Good luck
