Has anyone stopped HDT - results??

My husband no longer has gonads after 4 years on HDT with first Lupron, then Firmagon. He is currently on Zytiga with Prednisone. I am thinking that there is no reason to continue the Firmagon when the target organs no longer exist. He is currently hormone refractory with last PSA of over 700 (down from over 1500 6 weeks earlier). Can anyone report on their experience?

Re: Has anyone stopped HDT - results??

Jo,
Zytiga (abiraterone) has just got approved so there are probably few men with experiennce with it. The oncologist is trying a combination of two hormone treatments to try and get the testosterone to the lowest level possible to control the cancer. Your husband is getting one of the latest and more expensive drugs available so it is probably best to let the oncologists have a go with the most aggressive treatment available. At this stage the oncologist is fighting hard to keep your husband alive and the oncologist is probably hoping for another new drug to get approved this year that he can try next.
