Re: Does anyone have the weblink for the 24+ variant types of PCa??

Not sure if this is the definitive answer Robert but:

Re: Does anyone have the weblink for the 24+ variant types of PCa??

I couldn't get it to find the exact thing on variants only there home page. I search internet using google and cannot find anything, even the 18 variants website I have posted, didn't show up on google.
Perhaps they really don't want us patients to know such things?

Re: Does anyone have the weblink for the 24+ variant types of PCa??

Now, now Robert, paranoia is bad for us. We musn't believe that everyone is conspiring against us (even if they are!!) :-)

Here is the piece in the Wall Street Journal about the recent genetic study that dentified the 24 variants - THE PROSTATE CANCER QUANDRY

Of course old cynics like you and me home in on phrases like ...this could help doctors evaluate how aggressive a man's prostate cancer is.... and ...could lead to new treatments... and .....could be available in the not-too-distant future.....it will be several years....not a decade.... Since a decade is ten years, I wondered how long several years might be. Seems that it would probably be the five years we have seen so many times in the past in press releases like these. so it may not be a good idea to hold your breath waiting for this to eventuate.

Still and all, it is good to see some advances being made and the reinforcement of the obvious - that the majority of variants are non-life threatening and the majority of men diagnosed with PCa might never need treatment.

All the best

Re: Does anyone have the weblink for the 24+ variant types of PCa??

Thanks Terry I knew it was somewhere posted before and hey it is another feather in the cap for my home state of Michigan-USA...maybe we have some great future pathologists coming out from here. Other Michigan PCa honorable mentions:

1st DaVinci doctor within USA of course-Dr. Menon
1st Inventor of cyrotherapy for PCa- Dr. Fred Lee
Was 1 of 3 centers to offer Neutron & Photon radiations
Founders of Paactusa.org (newsletters) PCa advocates

No, we have no monopoly on PCa, but a few good things came from here. I don't wish to scare anyone, hopefully inform some people so they realize just how crazy and complex 'some' cases of PCa actual can be. Since I live in the high risk world of PCa, my perspective would be different than a W.W./A.S. guy as one might guess. We both have healthy skepticizm on issues about PCa.

Re: Does anyone have the weblink for the 24+ variant types of PCa??

I am LIVING proof that Michigan is a major center forinnovation in PC. Rick Profit, the head of a great non-profit organization entitled PAACT*, was a large help in arranging my special appointment with a true pioneer Dr. Fred Lee as well as a phone confab with Dr. Robert Leibowitz*. The night before I was to have Dr. Lee's patented color doppler ultrasonic procedure, I attended a PC meeting at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester Hills, Mi. where I met Dr. Fred Birch, a man that thinks outside of the box because of his immense DD into the latest treatments. Dr. Birch's mantra mostly consists of "PC is very complex and we don't KNOW enough about each individual's type of cancer and what works for each unique case".

Last but not least, Robert Parsons whom aided me days after my diagnosis in Dec of 08. He too lives in Michigan and has been an example of how we all can help each other. Without his support and guidance, I would never have attended the above mentioned meeting hosted by Dr. Birch.

BTW, I live in the land of THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES and drive to Rochester Hills, Michigan when I can save enough money to do same. My experiences at the OSU Hospitals were less than below par.
