Re: Update

Sounds like the cancer had spread before the surgery. You need to read as much about your situation as you can. There is a book by Dr. Walsh and another by Dr. Meyers that are good. Good luck.

Re: Update

Richard,
The Degarelix Acetate seems to be an improved and very latest version of an LHRH, such as Zoladex. The Degarelix Acetate will reduce your testosterone to very low levels(hormone control). You should see your PSA drop down below .1 and hopefully stay there for a few years at least. There seems to be a new interest in hormone control as a way of keeping PC down for a very long time. Whereas hormone control used to be considered effective treatment for only a few years and then patient's cancer become "Castrate Resistant", there is now a belief by some researchers and clinicians (like Dr. Myers) that hormone control, when properly administered may be able to kill PC cells or keep them down permanately.

My belief (based on research papers) is that very few patients die within 10 years of getting their prostate out no matter how bad their situation. There will be far better treatments in 10 years so hang in there.

Re: Update

Good news June 24 PSA 2.1 / July 22 PSA 0.1.I just completed 14 Radiation treatments to my neck and i can't swallow, lost 7lbs this month and a total of 38lbs since Jan '10. Still on Hormone Therapy.
