Re: Rise of PSA on Lupron

Your PCa has entered the Advanced stage and Cosidex is one of the drugs prescribed for advanced PCa. It has side effects, which can be found on the internet, you may be one of the lucky ones regarding the side effects, but they are similar to Lucrin (aka Lupron).

I have been on Lucrin for nearly 7 years and was on Cosidex for 4 years until last October 2009, when my PSA started to rise. After Cosidex fails, the only treatments left are Chemo or a Drug Trial. I selected a drug trial, because I do not want to have Chemo and my Medical Oncologist agreed with me.

I will start a Phase 3 Trial of the drug Abiraterone Acitate plus Prednisone, on Friday 6 Feb, it is a Double Blind Placebo Controlled Trial, so there is a 50% chance of recieveing a Placebo. I've never had much luck with 50/50 bets, so lets hope that is not the case this time. lol.

I hope that Cosidex with keep your PCa under control for you, for many years to come.

Good Luck.

Re: Rise of PSA on Lupron

Another possibility to consider if you do not have good results with adding the Casodex is Ketoconazole. My husband has been on low-dose Ketoconazole plus Hydrocortisone since June of 2008 with very good results and quality of life.

You might also see if your doctor wants to try a few other LHRH and antiandrogens just in case the problem is that your testosterone isn't low enough. "Snuffy" Myers believes that many hormone failures are due to the testosterone increasing and not the cancer cells becoming hormone immune (if I understand him correctly).
