Re: Rectal bleeding post prostatectomy?

Hi Pauleen
I am no expert, but I would imagine bleeding from the bowel can be from the surgery as the prostate sits against the bowel.

The bleeding in the urine can go on for some time - I am 23 days post op and sill have some blood in my urine. Ensure your dad is drinking plenty of water.

Re: Rectal bleeding post prostatectomy?

Hi Tim,

Thank you so much for responding to my question. I really appreciate it and it was a comfort during this stressful time. Good news, the rectal bleeding has stopped. He is still getting some blood in his urine too but has been reassured that this is common. Thanks for the tip about drinking lots of water!
Wishing you all the best, Pauline.

Re: Rectal bleeding post prostatectomy?

Glad to hear Pauleen - I hope he is on stool softeners - if not get some for him - it will make bowel motions much more conforatable whilst everything settles down.

Things will get much better once the catheter is out. And then each day will improve after that.

Best wishes
Tim from South Africa
