Prostate Flush Cancer Cells?

I have heard that the prostate may flush out cells that it doesn't recognize( i.e. cancerous ). Could this be true? Could it be the cause of 'renegade' cancer cells that come back to bite us later on?

Re: Prostate Flush Cancer Cells?

Bobbyboy,

It is possible that the immune system can recognise tumours at an early stage and deal with them. This is known as spontaneous remission and it occurs with all types of tumours. Of course it is very difficult to show this in the case of prostate cancer because of the difficulty in finding tumour cells in the gland.

If the immune system were to clear out the aberrant cells, they would not be able to flourish in other parts of the body.

Hope this helps,

Terry in Australia

Re: Prostate Flush Cancer Cells?

Good reply. Thanks Terry. I was trying to figure out how aberrant cells get loose and come back later in life as growing PSA leading to cancer in spite of apparently successful prostate removals. Figured that some cancer cells may have been flushed out and looking for a new home. I used to theorize that cancer cells were occasionally dragged out by biopsys but that doesn't seem to be the case either. Just curious.
