Has anyone had bad reaction to Cipro or Levaquin?

I just had a PCA3 test and it is positive, now I have to get a biopsy. (that I've been avoiding)

I'm 65, have tendon problems from sports injuries, and have read that old folks with tendon problems can have major problems from taking these antibiotics.

Has anyone had an adverse reaction from Cipro or Levaquin?

thanks,
jim

Re: Has anyone had bad reaction to Cipro or Levaquin?

Jim - I was on Cipro for 2 weeks after my biopsy for a sudden infection. At the end of the 2 weeks I developed a rash on my back and my skin was burning up. We determined that I am allergic to sulpha drugs. Other than that I had no problems with it.

Re: Has anyone had bad reaction to Cipro or Levaquin?

You might want to Google the side effects of these drugs.

It might be worth starting at blog DALLAS BOARD OF INJURY

Another site is CIPRO SIDE EFFECTS

At one stage of my journey, well before the FDA warning, I asked my doctor in South Africa if we could try a "US size" dose of Cipro. He frefusedpoint blank, saying that in his opinion, it was too dangerous.

Good luck

Re: Has anyone had bad reaction to Cipro or Levaquin?

I was on a two-week course of Cipro last summer to rule out an infection of the prostate before having a biopsy. I didn't have any severe reactions, but I'll tell you I didn't like taking the drug. The side effects I did notice was a feeling of anxiousness while on the drug and a minor ringing in my ears that did not subside until weeks later.

I was - and still am - concerned about tendon or joint damage from Cipro. I did some research on Cipro's side effects and became very concerned about the drug. I almost stopped taking it altogether out of fear of the side effects, but at the time I was hoping my high PSA was caused by an infection that Cipro would cure rather than cancer so I continued using it.

Bottom line: Cipro is powerful stuff. Like every other treatment option those of us with PCa are given, it is up to each of us to weigh the pros and cons and decide what is best for us.

Good luck,

MP

I was on Levaquin after a cystoscopy and had no problems.

Re: Has anyone had bad reaction to Cipro or Levaquin?

I was given Levaquin before my prostate biopsy and experienced rotator cuff problems afterwords that I had not had previously. It was a couple of months later that I read an article and realized that the Levaquin could have been the cause. The effect (if that's what it was) has since corrected itself (have been doing some theraputic exercise as well), or I would have tried to collect on the class action suit apparently in progress in the US - see http://www.fqresearch.org./mdl_class_action_defense_cases.htm

Re: Has anyone had bad reaction to Cipro or Levaquin?

Yes , The Cipro atached my ankle and tendon like you would not believe. I couldn't walk. Stoppped that med and went with something else and was OK after 1 day
