Hi! I live in New Zealand and would like to know if anybody out there is receiving treatment with a combination hormone/radiotherapy or HIFU, or, does anyone know of a specialist urologist/oncologist, preferably in N.Z., who is prepared to discuss these options for advanced PCa? I am able to travel overseas if necessary.
Thanks
Michael
HI Michael,
I received the combination treatment of hormone and radiotherapy. However my PCA was the the intermediate risk range. I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have.

Hi John!
Thank you for your response. I am interested, having read recent Swedish/British research that shows the combination of hormone plus radiotherapy rather than one alone can prolong life. My PCa is probably med/advanced no bone involvement so far. I am not having much success with discussing recent advances with my current urologist. and would like to know to know of any other specialist in N.Z. or further afield who is open to new advances.
Did you have your treatment in N.Z.?
Regards
Michael
Michael,
I had my treatment in NSW, Australia. Sorry but I cannot offer any assistance with medical contacts in NZ.
I concur with your view regarding the efficacy of ADT and EBRT for localised and locally advanced PCA. Research undertaken by TROG (Trans Tasman Radiation Oncology Group - yes they are also in NZ) indicates a potential increase in overall survival and decrease in recurrence. As usual though there are potential risks. Literature of late is reporting increased risk between medium to long term ADT and Myocardial Infaction. However I was well aware of that, when I made my decision.
Also be aware that the data obtained from the TROG 96 Trialformed the basis of combining ADT and PCA. They have a web site at http://www.trog.com.au hopefully it may give you some prospective contacts in NZ.
Good luck
John

Thanks for your recent response with information. I have been on to the TROG web site and found it helpful. I have an appointment with my urologist later this month to remove my catheter for a trial period and also to discuss future options. Two weeks ago I received a LHRH (Eligard) injection -- hopefully together with the Flutamide and Finasteride they will improve my situation!
