Post-op care

I have my surgery coming up on April 20 and my wife is wondering what to expect in the way of care that I will need after the surgery. I have read information on what I should expect, but not a lot about the care giving needs that she can expect. Any experiences and suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Post-op care

Wendell, I had robotic surgery Feb 17. Here's my experience: Tough time getting up from standing or lying down so may need some help for awhile. The catheter is a big pain, you'll need help changing bags. DO NOT lift anything over 10 lbs for a few weeks!!!! Stool softner, Milk of M a MUST!!! Expect a lot of blood in the bag but call Dr about thick stuff, clots etc. My pain was manageable with Hydrocodone. Walk a lot...bottom line take it slow, your body has been through a lot! I'm back to work tomorrow but refuse to do any heavy lifting, which doesnt really come into play anyway. Best wishes.

Re: Re: Re: Post-op care

Hi, I had my surgery 6th of March so quite close to when you will have yours. I had no pain and no catheter after a week in hospital. The hard part for me is the incontinence and it does require an understanding wife to put up with. Apart from that the hardest thing is doing nothing which is hard to do if not used to it.
Wife wise some of it is a learning curve as they suddenly realize what you actually contribute to the smooth running of the household so that is good.
Apart from that all you need is a bit of love and understanding.
