Bladder bleeding 13 years after radiation

I had implants and external radiation 13 years ago and now have a psa of .01. I developed bleeding in my bladder last year which happened about every 3 weeks. I origionally was told by 2 docs that nothing could be done. A 3rd doc put me on Elmoron, typiclly given to to females . It, along with some changes in diet has cured the problem. I hope this info can help someone else that has this problem. I would also like to know how others have treated this.
thank you

Re: Bladder bleeding 13 years after radiation

Aloha Tom S,
I'm not much help for this question. However, as to why your bladder is bleeding; EBRT 13 years ago was not very accurate as they were using X-Rays to guide the beam. The bladder, the prostate, they do not show very well in X-Rays. What you are experiencing is the long term after effects of radiation damage to the bladder. Even now, my bladder looks fine, but in 10 to 20 years, no one can predict whether my EBRT damaged the bladder. It is a wait and see proposition. Have a friend going on ten years after EBRT. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer last year. There were no other possible sources for this cancer; not in family, not a smoker, no job source exposure, not a good thing.
