PSA "Flare"

I saw my Oncologist today and he was actually somewhat elated that my PSA was up a bit as he said that it was most likely what he likes to call the "PSA Flare". He said that in 6 months, another PSA might be higher, and there was no cause for concern unless one in a year, was not lower than the highest value seen prior to that. So I will have another in July. A DRE indicated that the prostate was flat and smooth, almost un feelable, I guess you could say. He prefers the term "Flare" as he is a multi rating pilot and as he puts it, Flare burn bright and then they fizzle.

Re: PSA "Flare"

Good to see you a tad more positive today Jerry. No don't forget to perk me up when I am due for my next PSA in March, LOL.

Re: PSA "Flare"

Just my gut feeling, but doesn't smell right. Read what Dr. Strum has to say about flare, probably one of the most knowledgable on such. If you were given LHRH (lupron or its equals) the flare thing should be most likely in a short time frame days to weeks and not many months, as far as I know. People with higher stats and high psa levels should be put on casodex 14 days prior to LHRH drugs (per Dr. Strum, et al)
Go get a 2nd psa test soon from another source or see another onco for 2nd opinion, might be worth your time.
