HAPPY HOLIDAYS

To all our members in the US of A - or those expatriate US citizens who are celebrating Thanksgiving:

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

This is indeed a time to give thanks for most of us, whether we are actually celebrating Thanksgiving or not we should pause and realise how much we have to be gratful for.

All the best

Terry in Australia

Re: HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Well I confess to being somewhat ignorant re the whole thanksgiving thing. So feel free to flame away at this poor old aussie.

Now who is supposed to be doing the thanksgiving, for what, and to whom?????

I will probably sink like a lead balloon on this one!!!!

Re: HAPPY HOLIDAYS

And what role does a turkey play in the whole affair???

Re: Re: HAPPY HOLIDAYS

John,

American Thanksgiving was first celebrated by the pilgrims who came to the New World to avoid religious persecution. The first successful harvest was celebrated with their Native American friends by feasting on the fruits of their labors. Tradition says that the native turkey was the main course but historians believe that it was more likely fish. Today it is a time for families that have moved to get back together. It is traditionally the busiest travel time of the year. It also marks the official start of the Christmas shopping season.

All of this comes from a guy who lives not far from where the pilgrims landed.
