57 year,I was diagnosed in March, 2008 through the observant eye of my internist. My PSA had gone from 3.0 to 5.0 in one year. I was placed on antibiotics for one week and retested. My PSA dropped to 4.5. I was referred to an urologist for a biopsy. The biopsy confirmed T1C, Gleason of 3 + 3. I was then referred to the City of Hope Medical Center. I met with the Department Director- Chief Surgeon- to discuss the DA Vinci Radical Prostatecomy. I had the surgery on June 17. Spent two nights in the Medical Center. One week at home with a catheter. Followup PSA at 4 weeks is 0.06. Cancer was confirmed in 4% of the Prostate. All the cancer was removed. It was contained with the Prostate. Surgery took 4 hours due to enlarged Prostate. At 6 weeks, now feeling great, walking 2 miles per day. All functions are normal, except for occasional urinary drips. Immediately started Cialis, 10 mg 3 times per week. Sexual function is back to pre-operative levels. Naturally, the greatest stress was the unknown about the surgery and confirmation that all the cancer was removed. Anyone is welcome to contact me with questions. What a ride !!! :)
