Re: Abiraterone

Hi Jim.
OK, so I’m still pretty confused on this one. To me it looks like it’s a breakthrough in the method of administering ADT3 in that it affects enzymes in all organs that produce testosterone and chemicals that are synthesized into it resulting in undetectable T levels. It has successfully passed the Phase II clinical trial and Phase III is underway with preliminary results expected in 2011.
The Phase II results state that very few “major” side effects have been noticed. The overall tone is construed by me to be taken as, “not any worse than with Lupron”. Other things that might concern me about Abiraterone would be some of the things I’ve read about the various test groups. One was administered concurrent prednisone as with is commonly prescribed along with ketoconazol. Several others were already medically or surgically castrated during the trial. One group was only given Abiraterone.
This well may become a breakthrough when an advanced delivery system is in place to deliver a longer term solution than having to eat four pills/day. However (sorry) being a skeptic, I don’t see that much difference in what is now available as far as side effects and "cure". I hope you will be able to prove me wrong. – Pat Priestley (Alaska, USA)

Re: Abiraterone

Anyone interested in learning a bit more about this might like to go along to DR DE BONO PRESENTATION - a double YouTube video.

My personal view is that the breathless press releases may have had more to do with raising finance and/or the share price than with a sigificant breahthrough. I hope I am wrong, but after twelve years of hearing about miracle cures that are never heard of again, I guess I'm just a tad cynical.

All the best
