Diagnosis, why did it take so long?

I am curious about other experiences of how you came to be diagnosed with prostate cancer. My own experience, apparently does not have anything to do with cancer (yet). My DRE's have been the same for as long as I can remember, slightly hard on one side. Presenting to my PCP the 5 or more night toilet trips, lead to a PSA check, which was 8. By the time we got to the biopsy, 8 mths later, it was 12+. I still have the frequent night toilet trips, but now believe that this problem is not a urology problem.

Re: Diagnosis, why did it take so long?

I didn't have any symptoms at all. A recent physical with a PSA and DRE showed nothing. Two months later, my GI doc did a DRE while I was sedated for a colonoscopy. When I woke up, he told me to get myself to a urologist.
