My mom

My mother is a paranoid schizophrenic. Although she is loving most of the time, she can be very manipulative when she wants to get her way. I stood up to her for the first time this spring, right before my wedding. We reconciled, and I thought things would be fine. Three months later, they aren't. She is on mental disability, and I am the guardian of her money. Right now, she wants me to turn all of it (14K) over to her. I refuse b/c she manages money poorly, and I know it will be gone in a matter of months. I am preparing to start a family of my own (at 31), and I really want to be free. I'm going to start back going to Al-Anon meetings to gain enough strength to continue setting boundaries. Times like these are tough for me b/c my mom is willing to do and say anything to get her way.

Re: My mom

I am 31 too. My mother is super manipulative as well. I want to be free too. I didn't know that Al-Anon meetings dealt with this issue. If you could provide any information, I would appreciate it.

Re: My mom

Good for you to Stand Up to Her!!!!!!!!! Congradulations!!!!!! Now, that takes Courage!!!!!!
What is it about "boundaries"? Im still learning!!!!!!!!

If it's too much for you to bear right now in your life, you might check around and see who else could take over her finances; an attorney, a family member, etc. Or explore the option of leting her do things her way, and so be it, allow her to manage her own. Then maybee she will understand that one cannot have a 401K on disability!!!!!!! It's problebly the 'grandios' thinking. Has she gone in for blood work, to see the levels of medication in her blood; i.e. is she really taking her meds?

Ive found Adult Children of Alcoholics to be helpful during times of crisis.....

Good Luck!!!! I sure hope she comes to her senses, but I know, realistically sadly it's not likely.

Keep up those boudaries!!!!!!!!
