Squad for Sunday 21st August (Pre-Season Friendly)
Our next Pre-Season Friendly at the Southgate Hockey Centre this coming Sunday against U.S. Acli is a 9.30.a.m. Kick-Off because of a wedding reception (I think ?) in the bar at mid-day...which might mean we will not be able to have a drink afterwards, but we will try and find out when we play 7-a-side this week.
Full details of the match are here on the Forthcoming Fixtures page.
The squad of 16 is as follows: Simon Jackson (GK)
Terry Moore
Alan Barnard
Ricky Kyagaba
Martin Cruickshank
Tony King
Danny Hagan
Daniel Cascoe
Dean Assiamah (If he gets some credit for his phone ? ) Ben Keating
Steve Cokell
Vernon 'Kizza' Nxumalo
Lexton Harrison
Daniel Daley
Lee King
John Scouller
If anybody else is available, please let us know as there are bound to be players dropping out.
Martin Loveday and Colin Bester are both unavailable due to social commitments.
Danny Hagan's planned pre-match warm-up routine of getting to the venue an hour before the kick-off will probably have to be started the following week as an 8.30.a.m. meet is probably a bit too early, but we would still expect all players to be at the SHC by 9.00.a.m.
If we have to play an Away match in the London Cup in South London we will have to get up and travel that early, so players will need to get used to it.
Re: Squad for Sunday 21st August (Pre-Season Friendly)
When we played at the SHC last Sunday, the bloke behind the bar didn't seem to know anything about a function taking place at mid-day this Sunday and neither did the two people behind the bar at 7-a-side last night. They looked in some 'diary' and saw nothing entered there.
They said they will find out if it has been cancelled and let us know on Thursday. (Presumably we would then be able to Kick-Off at 10.30.a.m. instead of 9.30. ?)
Hopefully that will be the case as both Terry Moore and Barney will be extremely p!ssed after Loveday's birthday pub crawl the night before. Are any of our other players going on that ?
By the way, U.S. Acli lost 4-2 to Turnford Geese last Sunday. ( See here ).

When i eventualy got a round in the fella with the beard said "oh yeah, you're here next week too. Early start for you lads. 8.30 isn't it". He bloody well knew!

Yes, he knows we have got the pitch booked for a 9.30.a.m. Kick-Off because I told him. He didn't know why because it's not in their 'diary' behind the bar.
It's not him that I book the pitch from, it's Liz. She probably hasn't filled the diary in yet and informed her staff of events booked for this Sunday.
Re: Squad for Sunday 21st August (Pre-Season Friendly)
Just to confirm that it is definitely a 9.30.a.m. Kick-Off this Sunday.
I was told last night that the Wedding reception is definitely on and that we all have to be away from the premises (including the beer garden) by 12.00 mid-day.
Some of our players are moaning like hell (particularly last night) and telling me to re-arrange things so that we kick-off at 10.30.a.m. then go straight home afterwards without having a shower or a drink (just because they are going out on the p!ss on Saturday night). However, we can't because other players have already gone and arranged things for the afternoon based on a 9.30.a.m. kick-off, as has the Referee, while US Acli are not going to be best pleased when I have told them the £75.00 they have got to pay us includes use of the showers and the bar afterwards !
Another complication is that the weather forecast for Saturday night/Sunday morning at the moment is 'violent electrical storms', so if that's the case, the Referee may well have to take us off for a spell during the match for us to shelter in the clubhouse.
As for the squad (and who is going to be Manager on the day), I will be phoning most players tomorrow (Saturday) morning. There are things going on which I cannot put on here. Thankfully I am not filming anything tomorrow, so I will be contactable all day. I am going to have a lot of sorting out to do.
Once again, if anybody can play who is not in the squad of 16 listed at the start of this thread, please let me know asap. You will definitely get at least 45 minutes.
Re: Squad for Sunday 21st August (Pre-Season Friendly)
For some reason, Kizza needs to borrow a pair of moulded-stud or bladed boots tomorrow. (Size 8/half or 9). Don't know if anybody can help out ?
I will bring mine but they are about 30 years old and very uncomfortable.
