7 a side report - 11th June 2009

We had a much changed squad for this week’s 7 a side match against NBC Chills. With Simon Jackson and Martin Loveday suspended there was a comeback in goal for John Rice and Jim Arrowsmith came into defence alongside Terry Moore. Danny Hagan returned from his suspension to join Tem Adil and Kris Spyrou and there were first appearances of the season for Aaron Illsley and Foysol Ahmed. Despite all the team changes it was a very good first half performance. We defended very well against one of the better sides in the league and created a few good chances of our own. We still found ourselves 2-0 down at half time but there was no arguing and some good teamwork. Unfortunately, we conceded 3 goals in a 5 minute spell at the start of the second half. It was noticeable that we missed Danny Hagan during this spell as he was having his ‘breather’ and when he came back on we conceded one more before Danny scored an excellent goal from Aaron’s pass. Shortly afterwards Aaron hit the post but we tired towards the end and conceded three more late goals for a final score of 9-1. Nevertheless, the team spirit was still good at the end and there were no disciplinary problems for Laurence to worry about. In fact, another positive mention for referee Steve Wildgoose who had an excellent game.
