We were struggling to find a team for a 7 o’clock kick off on Thursday against Cheshunt (Sunday). However, by 5.00 p.m. I had found a squad of seven, including a volunteer goalkeeper, Dave Wetton, thanks to Jim Arrowsmith. The arrival of Alan Barnard, Tem Adil, Foysol Ahmed and Clark Williams made it six at kick off with Mashood Burahee supposedly ‘on the way’. Fortunately, our opponents also started with six and with no sign of Mash the game continued as a 6 a side fixture. This made for a very open, end to end game, with Rovers playing some good passing football and Cheshunt hitting us on the break. Alan Barnard gave us the lead after ten minutes but an equaliser followed shortly afterwards from a good move. We fell behind just before half time when a poor backpass by Barney was intercepted. In the second half we created many chances but came up against an inspired keeper who pulled off a string of fine saves. We finally got a deserved equaliser when Jim Arrowsmith headed home from Foysol’s cross but we were unable to force a winner and the game ended 2-2.
