Weather anyone will see this bit about the whether I don't know, but just a warning that tomorrow's game could well be off because of a waterlogged pitch.
The forecast for this evening & tonight is dry, but then another band of 'mainly light rain with some heavier bursts' is supposed to come over from about 5.00.a.m. and continue well into the afternoon.
To find out whether Pitch One at Hazelwood is playable or not, we are supposed to phone 0208 363 7398 from 9.00.a.m. tomorrow morning.
This is the number for a pitch inspector who is based at Enfield Playing Fields, but invariably we do not get any answer on that number until after 10.00.a.m. (presumably because he is out inspecting pitches ?).
Obviously I will try phoning that number (and our players can as well if they want), but it is more likely that I will have to go down to Hazelwood at 9.00.a.m. and make a decision myself.
They no longer pin a note to the changing room doors if games are called off (I won't go into the reasons why ! ) and if we can't get through to the Enfield Playing Fields number we will only find out if the Council have called the pitch off if the bloke doesn't turn up by 10.15.a.m. to open up the changing rooms.
The Referee is a new young Ref who turns up to matches with his kit on 10 minutes before kick-off, although I did ask him if he could get there at 10.00.a.m. to make a decision if the weather is iffy.
If players want to take a risk that the game will be off so that they don't have to travel, that's up to them.
I will of course text everybody as soon as I hear anything, with priority being given to those who have furthest to travel.
IF PLAYERS TEXT ME ASKING IF THE GAME IS ON OR OFF, THEY WILL ONLY GET A REPLY IF I HEAR IT IS DEFINITELY OFF.
