Manager's report for Thursday 10.8.06

The first match in the Thursday Plate League was against Wood Green Old Boys who had beaten us in the group stages. This time we fielded a strong squad of 8 including a goalkeeper, Darryl Johnson, and another new signing , Clark Williams. Alan Barnard had pulled out with an injury and Foysol Ahmed didn’t realise we had a game because Laurence is on holiday and didn’t send him a text to remind him. That brought back memories of why our reserves often turned up without a full squad. Derek Dorward gave us the lead after 18 minutes only for two quick goals to put us behind. Conor McGovern had missed several chances earlier on but scored an equaliser shortly before half time. Further goals in the second half from Conor and Del seemed to have made the game safe but a goal with 2 minutes left reduced the arrears. Fortunately, we played some excellent possession football to see us home with a 4-3 win to start the league.
