Tony Mallinder R.I.P

It is with great regret, that I have to tell you all, that Tony sadly passed away on Monday, he had been ill with Cancer for the past 4 years. I have spoken to his Daughter Julie tonight and although it was going to be a quiet family service, she has received so many phone calls, from ex army friends that some of the lads he served with are now going to attend. I will advise you of the service details but what I can tell you, is that it will be held on Friday 7th September @ 10am in Blackpool.
John we have already discussed the possibility of you attending, I will email you Julie,s phone number.
RIP Tony, another Gunner in heaven.

Re: Tony Mallinder R.I.P

What the ??

Another good Bloke

RIP Tony

Re: Tony Mallinder R.I.P

That is bad news. I like to think I helped Tony in his career. When he left the army he stayed at our hotel for a while going through the details because they were going to do the same in Blackpool
Jean please accept our condolences and if we can help in any way please ask.
God bless you all.

Re: Tony Mallinder R.I.P

Wow!!!! now that is a shock..... I think Tony was the younger of the two and served with him and Terry in 68bty up to '65 approx. May he rest in peace after his battle of 4 years, it is sad news and my condolences go to his family, at least he is not suffering any more. The two of them didn't live far from where I live in Killamarsh,he must have only been in his mid 60's...having said that it has no respect for age. RIP Once a Gunner always a Gunner.

Re: Tony Mallinder R.I.P

I am very sorry to hear that, Tony was a smashing bloke. May he Rest in Peace.

Re: Tony Mallinder R.I.P

Tony was a Bdr when I knew him back in 1965 on the signals section of 68 Bty. RIP Tony

Re: Tony Mallinder R.I.P

Received this email from Julie this morning.

It is with great sadness that my darling Dad, Capt Anthony Mallinder MBE RA lost his 4 year battle with bone cancer on Bank Holiday Monday. He passed away peacefully with my brother holding his hand. Dad was surrounded by family and friends during his final weeks in hospital. Unbelievably, my Mum Jean is also undergoing treatment for cancer but her prognosis is excellent. Dad had great joy in reading all of the Facebook messages from Soldiers in 49, 26 and 19 Field Regiments who remember him so fondly. Unfortunately, we could never find a group for 42 Regiment RA.

Words cannot begin to describe all our heartache and grief but we will honour his memory at his funeral on Friday 7 September at 10am in Blackpool. We are meeting at Mum and Dad's home at 9am on Friday 7 September, 96 Hillylaid Road, Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire FY5 4ED and following Dad to Carlton Crematorium, Stock Road, Blackpool FY6 7QS for the service beginning at 10am. Afterwards, we are all going to Tavern at the Mill, Marsh Mill Village, Thornton-Cleveleys FY5 4JZ for a drink and meal.

Re: Tony Mallinder R.I.P

So sorry to hear of the sad news that Tony Mallinder has died. I remember him and his brother Terry with great fondness from their time in Plymouth until Pembroke Dock. Apart from them I am probably the only member of the Regiment that can remember their army numbers.God bless you Tony.

As another Yorkie in the regiment,I knew Tony and Terry.
God Bless You, TONY and Rest in peace.

Re: Tony Mallinder R.I.P

I remember spending some time with him and his father in the Mess at Lippstadt, very nice chap and very proud of his boys and rightly so. Cannot remember if his mother was there but they were spending a holiday with the boys.

Re: Tony Mallinder R.I.P

Tony had a good send off to that gun park in the sky, There were 10 Standards on parade with me having the privilege of escorting Tony into the service. Jean and the family thank you all for your kind thoughts that I passed on from the Regiment, plus I thank Fred Schule for coming and thanks for his donation of £10 for the welfare fund.

John

Re: Tony Mallinder R.I.P

John, I am glad Tony had a good turnout for his service, he would have been chuffed to know he was so well thought of. The family must have been very proud as well.
R.I.P Tony.

Re: Tony Mallinder R.I.P

Well done Jon I would have gone over to the funeral myself but I had an appointment that I could not put off. I am glad Tony had a good send off....I remember both him and his brother Terry joining the regiment. There was that many Yorkies at the time nobody knew who was who as everybody called each other Yorkie it was comical at times when a few got together....good old times. RIP Tony!!!!!

Re: Tony Mallinder R.I.P

I have just had a nice chat with Julie, Jean is managing to keep okay but as Julie said, its 6 months now so still hard to accept Tony,s Passing.
Julie said that the service was so nice expecially with all the Standard Bearers and old army friends being there. Julie will be looking in on the site.

Re: Tony Mallinder R.I.P

Hi Chris as you may or may not know i am rarely on this site but its my fault as i have work family and a whole lot of other feeble exuses but i am so so sorry about tony, me and pauline had a weekend there years ago and they were brilliant, he was so proud of his mbe and his little old bar.
pauline died in 2006 and i know she would have been gutted to hear the news
you never know they could be having a beer now waiting for the rest of us to join em ha ha.
please give his wife my regards and wishes chris
Thanks
