Life Interferes Sometimes

Hi y'all...

I've been a little quiet here lately... just checking in to see what's new here and there, though it seems like everyone is being a bit quiet right now, too. Maybe not so much "Andy" news out there to spark things up.

Anyway, such as it is, perhaps I can indulge and share where my recent attention has been focused of late.

I just lost a very dear friend. She was a brilliant stand-up comic, besides having many other talents. She did not achieve wide fame, but made her way around several comedy clubs from New York (including Caroline's) to L.A. She was very good at it; one of the things she was most proud of.

I could not attend her service, which was held near her home in New Jersey. Since "stand-up comedy" is sort of on topic here, I thought I'd share the poem I wrote for her and sent to her mom, and which was read at her service today.

----------------------------------------------------

Niki

Brilliant girl with shining eyes,
Sly smile that looks so wise,
Deep of thought and quick of wit,
At home when there's a spotlight lit.

Tiny girl with big, big dreams,
Talent bursting at the seams,
Never a loss for what to say,
She brightens up a weary day.

Need a co-conspirator?
She'll be that, and a whole lot more.
A caring soul, with so much to give,
Pulls no punches, yet... sensitive.

Our next act now, ladies and gents,
A lively gal with no pretense...
She'll fill your hearts with fun and glee,
Please welcome her, from New Jersey.

She takes the stage, she takes command;
She's got them in the palm of her hand.
She squeezes tight and won't let go;
Their stomachs hurt from laughing so!

Please, Niki, stay and take your bow,
They saw your set, they love you now!
They smile, they laugh, and now they stand,
To cheer and clap their happy hands.

Your spotlight faded all too fast,
The best joys, they don't often last.
The lives you've touched, your smiling face...
Fond memories we will embrace.

This world's a stage you leave behind,
We pray that peace is what you find.
Give God and the angels a laugh or two...
Sweet Niki, we'll miss you, and we love you.

Re: Life Interferes Sometimes

First of all: Raaawb, that was beautiful, what a wonderful tribute to your friend. I'm sorry for your loss.

Second of all: I'm sorry I haven't been around as much of late, but I was away last week on a vacation to NYC and when I got back and resumed work this week, I came down with some NYC flu or something and have been really ill and am still very much under the weather.

Third of all: McGee and I are not the same person, but we did meet up and have drinks with Pickles last Friday night. I do have photos that prove we are not the same person. :P He was on vacation all this week. He should be back and posting after this weekend, methinks.
