Can we therefore have some feedback on the following possibilities;
Dave Bassett, Ian 'you kill me Greavsie' St.John, Tommy Docherty, Bruce Grobelaar, Chris Waddle, Gordon Banks, Mick Quinn, Nobby Stiles, Graham Poll, Alan Mullery, Jeff Winter, Frank Worthington.
Personally my top 3 in no order are Waddle, Quinn and Poll.
Don't forget that Alan Mullery, Tommy Docherty or Frank Worthington were all playing or managing before some of our younger players were even born !
They are not so much in vogue nowadays, even though Mullery is still a pundit on Sky.
I think it would be better to get somebody who everybody could identify with, not just someone for our 'older' players.
I agree with Stu.
Definitely Waddle, Quinn or Poll.
I actually have some very funny footage of Graham Poll refereeing a Ryman League match in his early days, long before he was 'famous'. (Lecturing George Borg right in front of the camera).
Graham Poll spoke at the Enfield Town FC Sports Dinner last May and was excellent, Alan Mullery also spoke and wasn't half as good.
I also think Paul Hawksbee (Talksport & You're on Sky Sports) would be very good not a massive name, but v.funny and he's a local lad, brought up in Edmonton and still lives in Enfield.
Below is a link for Paul and his Talksport co-presenter Andy Jacobs (I don't know if they come as a pair)
I have seen 'back hander Brucie' before and I did actually pIss myself laughing far better than 'back door Winter', I've heard he plays a few shots down the Bakerloo, if you know what I mean ????? Banksie or Worthington would be great for me, both ex Stokies. And I am sure Big Frank has many a tale to tell.
If Mr Hughes was speaking I am sure that it would all be just negative bullsh1t and we would all be bored in about 5mins, everbody would go home and the club would fold. My vote would go to Ronald McDonald.
Whoever 'Peter Piper' is, he was obviously pissed in posting a message on here at 12.52.a.m. on a Sunday morning !
He can't even spell my name properly.
Why would I want to be the after-dinner speaker anyway ?
Stu, I have a feeling that Peter/Perrie Piper/Pipper is/are somebody from another club. Possibly someone who used to play for us and is a bit of a piss-head.
(Not Osborn though [:)).
Don't worry, I am ignoring it and will delete further messages from them.
Regarding a possible venue, if Trev hasn't got somewhere already, I spoke to Glenn Weaver last night (our ex-Reserve Team Secretary from the early-80's) and he recommends Winchmore Hill Cricket Club. His sister Val (a friend of my sister's) runs the place and can get us in there fairly cheapo.
Both Glenn and Val came to the 25th Anniversary Dinner.
