Long - Week End

Hi anyone on the net, the rest must b away r sleeping. I watched "The Bridges of Madison County" this evening, just finished a while ago. Great movie, a real weepie. Joe went to bed,is sleeping & grandson went to his room leaving me to go to Madison County. Lovely scenery. This is the only time I have the place to myself peace & no interruptions. I suppose my Canadian friends will b on later if they r not away for the w/end too. My son rang to say they cannot get a holiday in Spain r Portugal for 2weeks for 3, from 18th Aug. all booked out & he was on the Net all day trying to find a place. The weather has beat us all this year but it was a lovely evening here after 4.00pm. Midnight so I'll do a Cinderella & say Good-night & God bless to all.

Re: Long - Week End

Although hubby and I are looking after Rachel, as she didn't want to go, nevertheless I tried to get maybe a cancellation or two on their flight for yesterday evening. Rachel would have come with us. Alas, no cancellations, the flight was full and no available flights until the week after they come back. I'll keep trying though because we would go and join them.

Re: Re: Long - Week End

Ann,
Joe watched the long-range forecast & the weather is to take up on Tuesday but no change after that so we may get some good videos. Still no news for Spain r Portugal will keep trying when the Travel Agents open tomorrow, sometimes u strike it lucky. I would like to see the family get a holiday after working all year. They went to a 4star hotel last year in Kerry said it cost too much to eat out compared with Spain r Portugal also it is educational for their young daughter, language etc. Book early seems to b the answer & next year I suppose we will have a good Summer when everyone's away. That's the way the cookie crumbles. Even Canadian flights r scarce of seats the people r fleeing the country & the rain, don;t blame them, solve ur own problems I say. Good hunting. Pat

Re: Long - Week End

Pat,

Why does'nt your son try for Italy, I think it is even nicer and very educational, some lovely beaches?.

Maybe not all Italian flights, fly out from Dublin,
but I remember seeing Ryan Air in Rimini airport, by the way I don't mean to stay in Rimini (I personally don't like it), but lovely places outside to stay outside Rimini. ()

When we go to Italy we fly out from Gatwick, and spend time with my daughter in Essex, usually make two holidays from one. (Italy is our favourite place)

Katie,

I already suggested that but they want Spain r Portugal on account of the languages.

Re: Long - Week End

Terrestrial teletext is best of all for package holidays. Better than digital, or Internet.
It's usually possible to book for Majorca. I enjoy practicing my Spanish, but agree that Italy is lovely. Lido Di Jesolo has ten miles of beautiful beach, and thousands of shops, restaurants, and bars. I have seen nothing comparable in Spain.

Re: Re: Long - Week End

Thanks Dabbler,
I passed on your info last night to my son who is investigating Terrestial Text. Will let u know what happens. I am touched by the amount of help offered to me by the Forumers. Thanks all.

Re: Long - Week End

Why all the searching where to go for a holiday? Southern Germany, Austria or The German speaking part of Italy = South Tirol offers so much. I don't know what flights from Britain cost but hotels and food are quite reasonable to anyone used to British prices. You can run up and down mountains all day like Heidi, yodeling at the top of your voice to the sound of cow bells or bathe in Lake Garda or some mountain lake. Children are also catered for at most places.
