Is it a bredie??

A South African friend once gave me a recipe for a stew which was fabulous, but I've lost both the recipe and contact with my friend (Brenda, are you out there???!). My guess is it's a bredie since it is a lamb vegetable stew, but this specific recipe contained the following ingredients (plus others I can't remember). I do not remember quantities, seasonings, or directions. Does anyone recognize this stew??

lamb
carrots
onions
banana
apricots
vinegar

Thanks,
Mary A.

Re: Is it a bredie??

hello Mary
Here is the basic traditional Tomato Bredie, I suppose you can add ingredients like apricots and banana?
Enjoy!

Tomato bredie

Ingredients
1 large onion, sliced
1 ml peppercorns
1 ml ground cloves
80 ml water
15 ml vegetable oil
1 stick cinnamon
500 g mutton, cubed
15 ml crushed ginger
2 cardamom pods, crushed
1 x 410 g can chopped tomtoes
1 x 65 g can tomato paste
1 green chilli, chopped
2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced
salt and freshly ground black pepper
sugar to taste

Method:
Place onions, peppercorns, cloves and water in a large saucepan and heat until boiling. Simmer until all water has been absorbed.
Add oil and cinnamon, and braise until onions are golden.
Add meat, ginger and cardamom pods, stirring thoroughly.
Turn down heat, cover saucepan with a tightly fitting lid and simmer for 30 minutes.
Add tomatoes, tomato paste and chilli. Close lid of saucepan and simmer for 20 minutes.
Add sweet potatoes, salt, freshly ground pepper and sugar.
Replace saucepan lid and simmer until sweet potatoes are cooked.
Serve on creamed spinach with mushrooms and Yellow rice with raisins.
