I hate when dc providers call themselves babysitters. That drives me crazy. What is the difference between a babysitter and a dc provider? This is my opinion: 1) A babysitter works for the parents (hours, fees, duties are didctated by the parents). A dc provider is a small business owner and sets her own fees, hours, rules and decides how to run her dc herself.
2) A babysitter works occasionally. A dc provider cares for children on a regular basis for an extended period of time.
3) A babysitter is casual labour and there are usually no contracts or agreements. A dc provider would have set policies, contracts and would keep accurate records.
4) A babysitter provides for the basic needs of a child (feeds, changes diapers, supervision). A dc provider (in addition to providing for basic needs) is knowlegable about the developmental needs of a child and provides a program that will encourage a child to meet important milestones.
5) A dc Provider is an experienced professional who is able to recognize problems and issues with children and solve them appropriately. A dc Provider comminicates opennly with parents and ofers parents help and advice on parenting issues when needed. A babysitter is often a teenager, is not usually educated in child development and has to ask the child's parents for help, advice and instruction on solving problems.
6) A dc provider works in her own home where a babysitter usually works in the clients home (or wherever the client wants the babysitter to be).
7) A dc provider cares for multiple children from DIFFERENT families at the same time. A babysitter only works with one family at a time (one boss).
There are more differences I am sure. Think about what kind of care giver you want to be. |
