I always give written notice of termination, it is easier to explain everything in writing without as much emotion as face to face. I think it is only fair (depending on your contract) to give a two week notice, although most parents if they are mad will just pull them out the next day. Try to be as kind as possible in explaining the reasons for letting him go but also be firm as the parents may try to talk you out of it. Try wording it something like,"I do have a responsibility to my own children and other daycare children to make this enviorment as positive an experience as possible. It is unfortunate that (child's name) is no longer a fit in my daycare." Try not to get into a verbal conflict infront of the other kids, simply say I will discuss this with you further once the other children have left or over the phone. Good luck, it is never easy, but you must do what is right for you! |
